Richard Meier's MACBA in Barcelona, contemporary art |
| MACBA (Museu d'Art Contemporànea de Barcelona) was built from 1987 to 1995 by the world famous American architect Richard Meier. The futuristic building is a fine example of how Barcelona has succeeded in remodeling parts of the city that were in decadence little more than a decade ago. |
| The museum is situated in the center of the Raval area. The Raval barrio was one of the poor parts of the old part of the city before the museum was built, but now the area is experiencing a renaissance - trendy shops, bars and cafes open all over. |
The building and Richard Meier
| MACBA is 120 x 35 meters and has four floors with vertical spaces going through them. The use of natural light and the many windows create a dialogue between inner and outer space. Richard Meier's architecture is inspired by functionalism and rationalism, as found in the works of Le Corbusier. |
