Barceloneta & the beach area created for the Olympics in 1992 |

|
| Barceloneta, or "Little Barcelona" as it means, is a triangular residence area between the old harbour and the promenade near the beach. The quarter was created in 18th century, and now both locals and tourists come here during the weekend to eat fresh paella and stroll along the beach. |
| Barceloneta was created in the 18th century to houe the population that had been made homeless by the demolition of a big residence area before the construction of the citadel, La Ciutadella, by the Bourbons. When Barceloneta was created the laws stated that building higher than two stories was illegal - today many of the buildings are still within these maximums. |
Museu d’Història de Catalunya
|
| In the outskirts of Barceloneta is the Museum for the History of Catalonia. The building is a restored warehouse from 1901. The expositions of the museum are generally about recent history of the region. The museum also has a library and a café. The model of La Sagrada Familia on the third store gives an impression of how the building will look like when finished. |
