| Raval has undergone an important change over the last decades. This has to do with the many renovation projects that have been executed over the last years. In the upper Raval, the construction of MACBA (1987-95) gave new life to a part of the city that on the time was falling into decadence.
MACBA by Richard Meier in Barcelona
The district around the futuristic Museu d'Art Contemporanea de Barcelona (MACBA) - The Museum of Modern Art of Barcelona - has changed radically since the construction of the museum, designed by the American architect Richard Meier. The Museum exhibits Catalan and foreign contemporary art, among those the Catalan painter Antoni Tàpies. Connection to MACBA is the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporànea de Barcelona) that has exhibits and conferences on modern culture. Read more about MACBA here.
Sant Pau del Camp
The church Sant Pau del Camp is the oldest one in Barcelona. During the middle ages it was situated outside the city wall in the area called "El camp", a place at the foot of the Montjüic-hill consisting of fields. The church is now a national monument and has undergone restoration several times. |
